To Ignore Or Not To Ignore

I'm currently sitting in the Honors Study Lounge in the AOK Library on campus. There's a guy sitting diagonally across from me and he just let out a fart. The amusing thing is he just sat there and didn't even blink. He just continued doing whatever he was doing. That just makes me wonder, if you do something that is a "taboo" or disgusting in front of people by accident and just continued doing whatever you were doing, what are the chances the people around you will say something about it, steal sidelong glances at you, whisper and what are the chances they'll also go along with you and pretend nothing happened? Hmmm.
